I watch a lot of television. A lot, a lot, a lot of television. But let me tell you, this new show on Netflix, “Love”, is potentially my favorite show. Does it count as television if it’s on a web-based platform…? Don’t care, because this show is too good not to watch. First of all, if you like Judd Apatow, you’ll Love “Love”. Second of all, if you have a remote sense of humor, you’ll also Love “Love”. Third of all, I think I’m in Love with Gus…and Mickey. The two protagonists.
It’s an honest show, about flawed, funny people. It’s deeper than you think– not just some show about romantic Love, but a Love addiction of sorts. A need to be loved that’s so powerful and human. A need for companionship and a need to be thought of as interesting, cool, funny, quirky, bright. Just a need to be thought of at all, by someone you could see yourself kissing. I Love that. I really do Love to watch an accurate portrayal, or at least, a relatable to me portrayal, of these vulnerabilities. As much as I enjoy “Sex and the City,” Carrie doesn’t quite capture the way I respond to difficulties/successes in Love.
It’s also laugh out loud, spit out your drink, hysterical. Just watch it. I Love it. I’m sure you will too.
