Hear ye, hear ye! Westworld is this Fall’s new Game of Thrones— but better. At the very least, Westworld is Game of Thrones in the good ol’ days. The twists and turns of those first two seasons blew my mind. (I still remember Ned Stark’s shocking beheading. My friend Emma and I couldn’t believe it…to the degree that we were certain it was some sort of apparition.)
Westworld’s plot is fantastic and so creative: imagine an amusement park that transports you back to the wild, wild American West, where robo-humans allow you to live out particular narrative loops. Wanna be a hero? A villain? A lover? A fighter? Westworld has it all. Unfortunately for the creators, these robo-humans are beginning to think for themselves, assessing the cruel realities of their surreal lives.
Featuring Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, James Marsden and Anthony Hopkins, this star-studded cast is the real deal. Tune into HBO, or hack your friend’s ex-boyfriend’s HBOgo, and start watching! The first two episodes are available, and I’d love a viewing companion for next Sunday night.
Based on the 1973 film with Josh Brolin, Westworld is that perfect blend of fact, fiction and straight up fantasy.
